Therapeutic Massage is a type of massage that focuses on relieving sore muscles and helping to soothe aches and pains. Varied pressure along with aroma-therapeutic oils and heat can help attack sore muscles, knots, and aches and pains. Therapeutic massage focuses mainly on soft tissue manipulation, and differs from relaxation massage. While relaxation massage might utilize lighter pressure, therapeutic massage works deeper into the tissues and cause more tenderness post massage.
Please note that if this is your first time getting a therapeutic massage, you may want to consult your doctor if any of the following conditions apply:
You are on blood thinners
You have any condition that causes weak skin or easy bruising
You have recently been in the hospital or had a surgery
You have an upcoming surgery
You have any sort of medical devices or implants
You have osteoporosis, or any disease that causes weakening of the bones
You have a history of clots, DVTs, or pulmonary embolisms
You have any tumors, cancerous or benign
Please disclose any relevant medical conditions and allergies to your massage therapist during the intake process.
Getting your first massage can feel like a daunting task, but here are some tips that can help your first experience go smoothly!
Hydrate - Massage can move a lot of fluids around in your tissues, hydrating ahead of time can help reduce soreness. Water is provided at our clinic, and we encourage hydrating afterwards.
Use the bathroom - Massages are at minimum 50 minutes, and due to scheduling constraints we cannot offer any extensions. If you have to get off the table to use the restroom it will be part of your time. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early to use the bathrooms inside the facility before beginning paperwork.
Avoid strong perfumes, etc - The room that the massage is performed in is small, and strong perfumes or odors could interfere with the benefits of the aromatherapy enhancements. You paid for them so you should get the full benefit!
Give some extra time for paperwork - Before every massage, a client consent form must be filled out, which will help identify areas that our Massage Therapist can target during your session.
Breathe - Not only will slow and steady breathing help with relaxing, it can help during any discomfort felt when a knot or tight spot is found.
Wear the right clothes - We recommend wearing loose, casual clothing that can allow you to undress to your comfort level. Think about clothing that gives you the most options to do so, I.e. Shirt and pants instead of a dress.
Communicate! - Every massage is unique, because every body is unique! Be sure to communicate with your Massage Therapist what you expect from the massage, any preferences you may have, and during the massage, please communicate if the pressure is too much or not enough. We're only human, after all!
At the Dragon's Rest, you can expect a calming environment with dimmed lights, soft music or white noise, and pleasant scents. Here is a timeline of what your average massage will look like.
